Mayuge. The government has allocated Shs28 billion for maintaining and tarmacking of some roads in Busoga sub-region in this year.
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) engineer based in Jinja Stephen Kisubi told Daily Monitor funds have already been disbursed and the contractors have been identified.
“Some roads under the central government like Iganga- Bulopa-Kamuli road and the Kamuli-Kaliro-Bukungu road are to be worked on at an estimated Shs27billion,” he said.
The Iganga-Bulopa-Kamuli road is to be worked on by Etate Contractors Company Limited.
Mr Kisubi, however, said government is yet to identify contractors to work on the Jinja-Budondo-Mbulamuti road which was also included in the 2013/2014 budget, but has never been worked on.
“There are some two contractors who applied to work on Budondo Road but government is taking its time identifying the best contractors and mobilising more funds for, but residents can rest assured that it must have been fixed by the end of 2016,” he said.
