Hundreds receive free treatment ahead of Kabaka Mutebi birthday celebrations

LUWEERO. More than 500 patients have undergone medical examination and treatment for their respective health complications at a medical camp organized as part of the activities to mark Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II 64th birthday .
The celebrations are happening today (Saturday) at Ndejje Senior Secondary in Luweero District.
A health camp coordinated by a consortium of Rotary Clubs and health care organisations on Friday received patients from areas of Bombo, Ndejje and Makulubita villages in Luweero District.
Mr David Mutyaba Muzanganda, the chairperson of the organising committee for the Kabaka Mutebi 64th birthday celebrations said the health camp is part of the many activities that are meant to provide health care to Kabaka’s subjects in the rural areas who cannot afford the medical expenses at the different health facilities.
“The medical personnel have treated more than 500 patients who turned up. The medical teams examined the patients for ailment which included high blood pressure, eye complications, malaria. The health camp also held cervical cancer screening for the ladies among other ailments,” Mutyaba said in a brief interview.
Dr Charles Kahigiriza, the Head teacher of Ndejje Secondary School said the students also benefited from the health camp while the locals were the major beneficiaries.
Buganda Kingdom organises the Kabaka birthdays on rotational basis hosted by the different counties. His 63rd birthday was celebrated at Villa Maria Catholic Parish in Kalungu District.
By Friday evening cheerful residents were erecting arches in various townships along Kampala –Gulu highway including; Kawanda, Matugga, Bombo, Kalule, Wobulenzi in honour of the Kabaka.
Kabaka’s birthday fete will climax today with Kabaka Mutebi cutting a cake to end the week- long celebrations that begun with Kabaka Birthday Run which took place in Kampala and other towns in Uganda and diaspora last weekend .
Kabaka Mutebi was born on April 13, 1955 to Kabaka Edward Fredrick Muteesa II and Nabakyala Sarah Nalule at Mulago Hospital and spent his early years in Mengo palace. He was later taken to Masaka and the UK in 1967 when President Obote abolished the kingdoms.
He stayed in the diaspora until his father’s remains were returned for burial in 1972.
