Kampala. The jailed senior police officer Nixon Agasirwe yesterday told the military court that he assigned two bodyguards and three guns to former patron of Boda Boda 2010 Association, Abdullah Kitatta, for his protection.

Agasirwe was testifying as defence witness for Kitatta. Agasirwe is currently on remand in a separate case.

“I was directed by then IGP Gen Kale Kayihura to give Kitatta protection in form of armed policemen after the infamous Buganda riots [in 2009]. I ordered the police armoury man to give Sgt Allan Matsiko one AK47 and a pistol and one pistol with 15 ammunitions to Sowali Ngoobi,” Agasirwe told court presided over by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti.
Kitatta is on remand with 12 others over unlawful possession of firearms.

Agasirwe said the AK-47 and two pistols and ammunitions were recorded in the armoury book.
“My job was to protect Kitatta, who operationally was reporting to Kampala regional police commander and police commanders and occasionally to the IGP,” he testified.

However, Agasirwe did not talk about the golden pistol that was found with Kitatta in a city hotel which is a subject of his prosecution in the army court.

Kitatta and his co-accused were remanded to Makindye Military Barracks until March 26 when more defense witnesses are expected to testify.
