IGG calls top police officer over misuse of money

Kampala. The Office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has summoned the commander of the Police Protocol Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jamar Basalirwa, and his juniors over misappropriation of funds.
In a December 10 letter signed by ACP Moses Muluya, the IGG indicated that it is carrying out investigations into allegations of misappropriation of funds by officials at the Ministry of Gender during the International Scouts Centenary Jamboree held between August 18 and 28 in 2015.
The letter shows that Mr Basalirwa, ASP Henry Fredrick Kalulu, among others, were supposed to appear before the IGG yesterday.
“The underlisted have been summoned on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the time as indicated below the report to IGG’s office at Parliament Avenue ... and ask for either Ms Gloria Abalo or Mr Paul Walakira,” the letter reads in part.
A police source at police headquarters in Naguru said at least 23 police officers under the police band unit have already recorded statements with IGG investigators.
“They were asked on whether they received the amount of money indicated in the International Scouts centenary accountability document in 2015,” a source said.
The IGG’s office reportedly picked interest in the case after records revealed that money close to Shs200m was spent on lunch for protocol and band unit police officers.
