Italian company to deliver Shs28bn police plane
Piaggio Aerospace said they would deliver a P.180 Avanti Evo in VIP configuration to an East African customer
KAMPALA. An Italian based company Piaggio Aerospace is to deliver a nine-passenger aircraft worth Shs28 billion to Uganda Police Force in days.
In a statement, Piaggio Aerospace said they would deliver a P.180 Avanti Evo in VIP configuration to an East African customer.
“In the next few days, a second Avanti EVO will perform its ferry flight from Italy to the African Continent, where the aircraft will be taken over by an undisclosed customer. In the meantime, Piaggio Aerospace is actively working at developing a support organization in the area,” read Piaggio Aerospace statement.
Police ordered for a fixed wing plane from Italy in 2017. A police source said it is the same company that was contracted to deliver the plane for Uganda Police Force. Police Air wing has three helicopters.
Mr Vincenzo Nicastro, the extraordinary commissioner of Piaggio Aerospace, said in a statement, “We are honoured that Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones has reconfirmed his trust in our company and his satisfaction with the aircraft unique performance, and that a customer based in East Africa chose Piaggio Aerospace and the Avanti EVO for their operations.”
P.180 Avanti Evo has a range of 2,700km, which means that it can fly from Entebbe to Harare in Zimbabwe or Adidas Ababa in Ethiopia non-stop.
By press time, police spokesman Commissioner Fred Enanga was not available for comment on when the plane will arrive at Entebbe International Airport.
