Christmas message. He called for independence of institutions to fight theft of public funds.

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has said political interference in various government institutions is partly to blame for the rampant corruption in the country.

He criticised the current trend of forming various graft fighting institutions as non-solutions to the fight against theft of public funds.
“We are tired of that song of investigations. Action must be done by responsible actors. We believe that if institutions were left to act independently, theft of public resources would come to an end,” the Kabaka stated in his Christmas message released by his spokesperson Dick Kasolo yesterday.

While officiating at the Anti-Corruption week on December 10, President Museveni unveiled a new committee headed by Lt Col Edith Nakalema where people will report corrupt government officials.

The country already has the Auditor General’s office, Inspectorate of Government, among others, who fight corruption.
Mr Museveni threatened to sack all corrupt government officials, but added that this will be done through investigations, saying he does not want to put workers on pressure.

Kabaka Mutebi’s message mirrored his July 31 Jubilee coronation message.

Upbringing
“Previously, parents taught children how to avoid greed and indeed children grew into good-mannered citizens. But in this era, there is a lot of greed among people and this is why we witness a lot of corruption,” the Kabaka said.
He said massive corruption had led to a broken healthcare, education, politics, economy and retarded national growth.

In yesterday’s message, Kabaka Mutebi lauded international and local partners for working with Buganda Kingdom.
“Most of our agencies have been energised and are working in line with the cores of developing our people,” he said.
