Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has said only visionary Buganda clan heads can take the kingdom forward.
He was speaking in Bakka, Busiro County in Wakiso District ahead of his grand coronation today.
“The task of restoring our heritage and culture that had been destroyed, developing our people at all levels, requires visionary clan leaders because they are respected people and their respective clans are seen as role models,” Kabaka Mutebi said yesterday.

He lauded the leader of Effumbe clan head, whose headquarters he was visiting for taking steps in ensuring development.
“We have seen development interventions that will help his clan. They have strategy to revamp their headquarters. This creates a leverage and sense of respect to the clan head and members,” the Kabaka said.
He also asked each clan to develop projects such as schools.
The Kabaka urged environment protectionism and directed clans to nominate trustees who will take care of their affairs.

To the youth, a group of people to whom he dedicated his era as king, Kabaka Mutebi asked them not to sit back on matters of interest.
“This is an era of competition and winners must be educated and having good conduct. Be decisive because your parents have enabled you to attend school to be useful to the entire nation,” Kabaka Mutebi said.
He later visited Buwaya in Ssissa Sub-county at the headquarters of the Emmamba clan.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga had earlier made welcoming remarks to a delegation from the Sultan of Sokoko Caliphate in Nigeria, led by Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
At Bakka, Tourism minister Godfrey Kiwanda, members of the Royal Family, members of Mengo cabinet were present.
Mr Mayiga said Kabaka visit at Bakka was significant in history because it was rare. Last year the Kabaka’s launched a campaign to visit all clan headquarters to acquaint himself with their current challenges and opportunities.

Mr Mayiga said heritage is priceless and called for land protection amid the ongoing land grabbing.
“Effumbe clan has been committed against those who wanted to grab their land. Land is an important asset that must be guarded jealously,” Mr Mayiga said.

He implored preservation of cultural and clan values because these were the cores on which the kingdom is built.
“The original home of any clan is priceless because it defines the essence of our culture and heritage, the very beginning of the kingdom of Buganda and it is very important that we guard the original ancestral homes,” Mr Mayiga said.
To Kabaka’s visitors from Nigeria, Mayiga said their coming was a landmark step to cement African brotherhood.
