Kampala on lockdown over Museveni's anti-corruption march

Several roads leading to and outside the city centre were sealed off and cars restricted as President Museveni on Wednesday marched to Kololo in one of his efforts to stamp out corruption that has cost the country billions of shillings.


Mr was accompanied by politicians, members of civil society organizations and religious leaders among others.

Several people were seen walking to work as they were caught unawares by the traffic restrictions. Motorists on several roads around the city were also seen stranded in traffic jam for hours.

In some places, Boda Boda cyclists also hiked the transport fares.

For instance from Banda to the city centre, boda boda operators have increased the fares from Shs4,000 to Shs10,000.

Mr Erias Ssembatya, a resident of Bwaise said that he was charged Shs4,000 to city centre yet he normally pays Shs3,000.
