Karimojong warriors kill UPDF soldier, take off with gun and animals

Karimojong warriors have killed one Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier and his child before taking away the gun and unspecified number of domestic animals.

The incident happened on Thursday at around 11pm at Katabok village, Lokopo Sub County in Napak District.

Mr Elijah Lobucel the Lokopo Sub County LCIII chairperson said the warriors exchanged gun-fire with the soldier before overpowering him and took off with cows, goats and sheep.

“There was a lot of gunfire and it lasted for almost an hour. It was until in the morning when we learnt that the warriors had attacked a protected kraal in Katabok village, “he said.

According to Mr Lobucel they followed footmarks of the warriors and they headed to Kobebe dam in Moroto District.

Maj Telesphar Turyamumanya, the UPDF 3rd division spokesperson, confirmed the incident say-ing it will not stop army from pursuing peace in Karamoja sub region.

“They killed our solider and took his gun after an exchange, but we are pursuing them and they have not gone too far. They are just within and we have already surrounded the bushes where they are hiding with the animals,” he said.
