Kayihura no show, Col. Ndahura released on bail

KAMPALA. The Army Court in Makindye, Kampala has released former Police Director of Criminal Intelligence Col. Ndahura Atwooki on bail.
The court chairman Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti on Monday granted Col. Ndahura a non- cash bail of Shs10m.
Each of his five sureties who included Ruhinda MP Donozio Kahonda was bonded Shs5m also not cash.

Lt. Gen Gutti said Col. Ndahura shall report to court once every month and that his movements are restricted to Kampala and Wakiso districts.
“The sureties shall ensure that the applicant attends court when required. If he violates the bail conditions, his bail will be cancelled,” Lt. Gen Gutti said.
Col. Ndahura who has been in detention at Makindye Military barracks for close to eight months is, together with former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, charged with failure to protect war materials and interfering with the process of law contrary to Section 166 of the UPDF Act 2005.

He is one of the 26 police and military officers who were arrested over suspected criminal activities orchestrated during Gen. Kayihura’s reign as IGP. He asked court for bail on several grounds, one of which was that he has high blood pressure which cannot be treated in detention.
Meanwhile, Gen Kayihura did not show up at court as expected.
