Kidnappers kill boy after taking Shs500,000 ransom

Kampala. Kidnappers called a mother of a 12-year-old son last week demanding a ransom of Shs2m, but later killed the victim after the poor parent managed to raise only a quarter of the amount.
Gertrude Nambozo 38, a resident of Ngombere Village, Nsange Parish, Mpunge Sub-county in Mukono District, informed police about the kidnap. She also emptied her meagre coffers where she drew Shs500,000 to save her son, Shafik Kimera, 12. Sadly, however, the heartless kidnappers took both her money and son’s life.
Ms Nambozo sent the money to the kidnappers and promised to raise more money. The kidnappers were not satisfied, they killed Kimera, but continued demanding more ransom.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, said days later, crime intelligence officers tracked down the suspects and arrested them.
The victim’s body was later taken for a post-mortem at Kawolo Hospital.
This is the second murder in a case of kidnap for ransom this month in Kampala Metropolitan area. The first case was in Wakiso District last week. The suspect was arrested.
In the Ngombere incident, Mr Owoyesigyire said, police recovered an Airtel Sim card from one of the suspects.
Mr Owoyesigyire said the suspects, who are being held on charges of murder and kidnap, were transferred to Mukono Police Station for further interrogation.
