King Mumbere’s mother dies at 85

KAMPALA. Rwenzururu Kingdom Queen Mother Christine Mukirania has passed on aged 85, the royal family has confirmed.
She is mother to King Charles Wesley Mumbere who has not stepped foot in Kasese since the UPDF raid on his Buhikira Royal Palace in Kasese town on November 26, 2016 that left over 100 people dead.
She is also mother to State Minister for Agriculture, Mr Christopher Kibanzanga.
Moses Kibanzanga, a grandson told Daily Monitor that the Queen Mother passed on Tuesday morning at Kilembe Mines hospital in Kasese District.
“Yes, she (Queen Mother) has died after several months of pain” Mr Kibanzanga said.
He said, the Queen Mother died at Kilembe Mines hospital where she had been admitted a few weeks ago.
It is not yet clear whether the cause of death is related to the diabetic condition that led to the amputation of one of her legs in March this year.
She had first been admitted at Case Hospital in Kampala where two of her toes were removed. President Museveni visited her in hospital and had promised to cater for her medication abroad.
The first trouble was a wound caused by poorly cut nail, which failed to heal.

She was first treated at Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese District, but her condition did not improve due to diabetic attacks and the family decided to transfer her to Kampala.
The deceased working with regents brought up Omusinga Mumbere and his siblings when her husband Isaya Mukirania died on September 2, 1966 shortly after his coronation.
She is survived by seven children- three males and four females.
The grandson said, family and relatives within and around Kampala are gathering at Minister Kibanzanga’s home in Kyebando a suburb of Kampala for burial arrangements.
King Mumbere’s residence in Muyenga is a restricted place and it is not clear whether he will be allowed by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) to mourn his mother.
Due to stringent bail terms, King Mumbere is not allowed to visit his Kingdom, something that creates questions over how and when he will mourn his mother.
