Kyotera woman arrested over murder of husband, his friend

Police in Kyotera District have arrested a woman in connection to the killing of her husband and a friend on Tuesday morning.
According to Police, Ibrahim Kakooza, 65, was killed inside his house together with his friend Robert Nyabenda, 55. Nyabenda had paid a visit to Kakooza at his home at Mabaale – Kidda Village, Kabira Sub County, Kyotera District.
It is alleged that the wife to Mr Kakooza connived with the murderers to kill him so that she takes possession of about 15 bags of coffee which both harvested recently.
“Of course we have arrested the wife and another an unidentified man we have found in a nearby forest without any identification document to assist us with investigations,” Mr Grace Mutono, the Kyotera District Police commander, said on Tuesday.
The latest murder brings the number of people killed in Kyotera District under unclear circumstances to five since this year started.
On Sunday night, Mary Nabukeera, a resident of Katuntu Village in Kabira Sub County in Kyotera District was also killed by unknown people as she moved out of her house to visit a toilet.
A day before, unknown people had killed Joseph Mugema, 24, a resident of Biikira -Bijja Village in Kasaali Sub County on allegations that he had an affair with another man’s wife.
On January 2, assailants also murdered Jalia Nakajugo, 67, a resident of Kakoma Village in Kalisizo Rural Sub County in Kyotera District.
According to Police, Nakajugo was murdered at her home as she moved from the kitchen to the main house.
Her murder was linked to land disagreements within the family. The assailants carried Nakajugo’s body and dumped it near her late father’s grave.
Other related attacks since December
On December 26, Maria Nansubuga, a nurse who worked with Kitovu Mobile, a local NGO, was murdered at her home in Kyanakase Village, Kabonera Sub County in Masaka District.
On December 30, three other people were also attacked by machete-wielding assailants and are currently nursing wounds at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital. The victims are residents of Kiyanja Village in Mukungwe Sub County, Masaka District.
