LDUs shoot suspected vandal on Entebbe Expressway

KAMPALA- Local Defence Unit (LDU) guards on Monday shot and injured a man who was allegedly found vandalising rails and chain links on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway

During the operation, an accomplice of the injured suspect was arrested.

According a Tuesday statement by the Spokesperson of the Land Forces, Lt Col Henry Obbo, the two were “trying to steal” the chain links that were erected  close to the newly constructed shs1.19 trillion expressway, to block boda boda riders and pedestrians from accessing it.

He said that at around 4am on Monday, at Kampala-Entebbe Expressway (Lutaba Cell, Bukasa Parish), LDU patrol found  two people vandalising road rails/ chain links.

Lt Col Obbo said the injured suspect was shot as he tried to escape arrest.

“He tried to run [away] and was shot at to disable him so [that] he can be arrested and is now under treatment at Entebbe Grade B Hospital after which he will be charged,” Lt Col Obbo said in the statement.

He said the second suspect surrendered and was arrested and handed over to Entebbe Central Police station with all the exhibits.

Lt Col Obbo said the deployment of the LDUs on Entebbe Expressway follows rampant vandalism of infrastructural items on the road and to stop criminals stealing from motorists.
