Police in Jinja District have slapped charges of threatening violence against a lawyer representing suspects implicated in a spate of killings in Busoga including the murder of the Shiite Muslim Sect leader Sheikh Abdu kadhir Muwaya in December.
Mr Abdu Nasser Mudiobole of Luganda Ojok and Company Advocates was arrested on Thursday morning at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Jinja shortly after representing two of the suspects who had appeared before Jinja Magistrate Isaac Imran Kintu.
Jinja District Police Commander Apollo Kateeba told the media that Mr Mudiobole had recorded a statement and was later released. Mr Mudiobole is accused of threatening a police detective from the Organised Crime Desk, Mr Francis Olugal.
However, Mr Mudiobole denied the claims: “I didn’t threaten or scare him. We have met several times at court over different cases in the past why would I threaten him now?”
