The Namutumba District Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Mariam Naigaga, is seeking to reclaim her vehicle which was impounded by police after it was reportedly used in a robbery in Bugiri District early this year.
Police in Iganga District, in collaboration with detectives from Bugiri, last week impounded the legislator’s vehicle, a Toyota Premio within Iganga Town.
The seizure of the vehicle came after Ms Tabitha Minsa, a senior accountant at Bugiri District Local Government, identified it as the get-away car that was used by thugs to rob her of Shs45m in February shortly after leaving Centenary Bank in Bugiri District.

Ms Minsa told detectives at Bugiri Police Station that her attackers, who were driving the vehicle in question, intercepted her moments after leaving the bank.
“I was standing outside the bank when two men came out of that particular car, snatched my bag and drove off towards Busia side,” Ms Minsa was quoted by a local publication.
Ms Naigaga on Tuesday, however, said the Resident State Attorney had taken the file back to police and ordered that her vehicle is returned to her and all charges against the suspects dropped.
The Busoga East police spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, on Monday, said: “The vehicle is still an exhibit which will help us to establish the people who were using it; but it will first be taken to Bugiri Police Station where the offence was recorded.”
Mr Mubi added that the legislator’s car was seized after police obtained information that the thugs used it to rob Ms Minsa.
He said investigations are still ongoing and Ms Naigaga would be required to record a statement although in her earlier statement to police, she said her car was never used outside Kampala throughout the month of February.
