Police in Wandegeya are investigating circumstances under which a 21 year old man was attacked by two unidentified men who drove 6-inch nails in his hands for allegedly being a supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Baker Kasumba, resident of Avis Kivvulu, Kawempe Division was reportedly attacked last evening along the Northern bypass flyover in Kalerwe as he walked back home from work.

Kasumba was reportedly saved by two women who saw what was happening and made an alarm that compelled the suspects flee the scene. The scene of crime is about 30 metres away from Kibe Police post.

In a statement which he recorded at Kibe Police Post in Kalerwe, Kasumba says he was nailed by unknown people for wearing a yellow beret, which is commonly worn by NRM party activists.

According to his narrative to the police officers, Kasumba says the attackers joined his hands together, placed his yellow beret in between and then used a hammer to drive the nails through his hands.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, says police have launched a manhunt for the culprits.

However, a police officer who preferred anonymity said Kasumba didn’t recognize the two men who did the harm.

He reportedly told police that his attackers said he was being nailed to die for his party, which he seems to love so much.

Kibe Police Post recorded the case under SD Ref 32/28/08/2019. Officers at the post, say Kasumba walked to the post groaning in pain.

By press time, Kasumba was still getting treatment at Mulago National Referral hospital and is out of danger after the doctors successfully removed the nails from his hands.
