Man arrested for presenting girlfriend’s documents at Police recruitment

All his personal pass slips had F9s. So he used the results of a woman called Nakabugo Josephine

Police in Kitgum have arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly presented academic documents belonging to his girlfriend at a police recruitment exercise on Thursday.

Identified as Simon Ojok, the suspect is a resident of Pager, in Kitgum Municipality.

Daily Monitor established that Mr Ojok appeared at the recruitment exercise held at Kitgum Technical Institute playground and allegedly presented documents in the names of Nakabugo Josephine.

According to Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Regional Police Spokesman, the suspect was arrested after he presented documents of a woman who had better grades and qualification than his own.

“All his personal pass slips had F9s. So he used the results of a woman called Nakabugo Josephine who had good credits and distinction,” Mr Okema revealed.

A detective at Kitgum CPS says the suspect disclosed that Ms Nakabugo Josephine was his girlfriend and offered her papers so that he would get recruited.

Moses Bwire, Kitgum DPC says the suspect was desperate to get recruited, due to joblessness.

“We have him and several others in our custody. It is a very risky and criminal venture that he tried to invest in although we have realized he was too desperate for a job,” Mr Bwire said.

Others arrested during the Thursday recruitment exercise were William Okot from Agago District and Toolit Alfred a resident of Ayul village, Pager, Kitgum municipality. One woman known as Nancy Akello presented a fake national ID in the names of Angom Nancy.

According to Mr Bwire, charges of impersonation and forgery have been proffered against the suspects.

Uganda Police Force have embarked on a countrywide recruitment exercise aimed at raising the number of police constables to 4500, ahead of the 2021 general elections.
