Man buried in wrong place, body exhumed

GULU. Relatives of a 58-year-old man were on Thursday left heartbroken after they found that the body of the deceased relative was missing from the mortuary at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where it was being kept.
The deceased identified as Cosmas Oola, a resident of Paicho Sub-county, Gulu District, reportedly passed on December 2. According to his relatives, the deceased’s body was later taken to the mortuary where it was treated before being placed in a cabin.
However on Thursday, when the relatives returned to pick the body for burial at his ancestral home in Omel Village, they found the mortuary cabin where the body was kept empty.
Mr Richard Akena Oceng, an in-law to the deceased, told Daily Monitor in an interview on Saturday that after several hours of tracing for the body, they found that a family in Popwonya parish, Atiak Sub-county in Amuru District had picked the body and buried it on Wednesday December 5.
He noted that after holding several talks with those from Atiak Sub-county, the corpse was exhumed on Friday. The deceased was finally buried at his ancestral home on Saturday.
