MASAKA. Police in Masaka District are investigating circumstances under which a prominent businessman in Masaka was splashed with acid.

Mr John Bosco Ssemujju, 39, a resident of Nyendo Town in Masaka Municipality was attacked on his way home from his place of work by unknown people on Monday night. He was injured on his face, back and other parts of the body.

Mr Ssemujju is a brother to the Kyotera District Chairperson Mr Patrick Kintu Kisekulo.

According to the Southern Regional Police Spokesman Lameck Kigozi, the attackers targeted the victim near his home and a bucket which contained acid was left in the compound.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect could have got injured as well. This is going to help us in our investigations because identifying the suspect will be easy,” Mr Kigozi said.

According to Ssemujju’s neighbours, the victim had no known grudge with people around the village and wondered who poured acid on an innocent man.

His brother Mr Kisekulo, said police need to investigate this matter thoroughly because it may be connected to politics.
“Someone may be trying to do revenge on me through my siblings and I request police to thoroughly investigate this,” Mr Kisekulo said.

Dr Vincent Twijukire, who is treating Ssemujju at Kitovu Hospital, said they are doing everything is possible to save his life.
