Police in Mbarara District in western Uganda are hunting for assailants who allegedly robbed and killed Mbarara University student.
Rwizi region police spokesperson, Mr Samson Kasasira said Akampurira’s body was found in a garden of beans in TASO village near a lagoon.

‘’Today at 5:30am Mbarara central police station OC operations received information that a body of unidentified person was found lying in TASO village near a lagoon. Police detectives rushed to the scene. A body of a Male adult in his mid-20s was found lying in a garden of beans with marks of serious violence on it,’’ Mr Kasasira said.

Mr Kasasira said Akampurira who was in his second year pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine was coming from his aunt’s place before he was ambushed by suspected robbers who killed him and took away his phone and other items.
“There were signs of serious struggle at the scene. Available information is that the student left his Hostel at 8pm after receiving a phone call from his aunt to take her food at Holy Innocents Hospital Nyamitanga, about 3km away from the university,’’ Mr Kasasira said.
Police believes there was a serious struggle between the victim and the assailants who are still at large.
“When he was coming back to the university hostel he used a shortcut but landed into an ambush staged by thugs who killed him. We are trying to establish his phone number so that we track the phone. No arrests yet. Investigations are ongoing,’’ he added.
The body was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem as they wait for the parents to take it for burial.
