Prophet Elvis Allan Mbonye has written to the head of Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Ms Grace Akullo, protesting what he calls slow investigations in a matter where he allegedly decampaigned the recent mass immunisation exercise.

His lawyers have since given the CID upto December 13 to respond with an update of the probe or they will take action against individual police officers investigating the matter for allegedly violating their client’s rights.

“We, therefore, urge and call on you as the head of CID to intervene in this matter with a view of concluding the now protracted investigations being undertaken by the investigating police officers whose incentive for this conduct is highly suspicious,” the lawyers state in a November 25 letter.

“If we do not get a response in regard to this protest letter by December 13, we shall be left with no option but to enforce our client’s pre-trial and constitutional freedom against individual police officers involved in this matter,” they add.

Prophet Mbonye is accused of allegedly posting misleading statements on his Facebook page deemed to be decampaigning the immunisation exercise.
His lawyers claim that since October 17, the CID officers have not concluded the investigations thus subjecting their client to numerous unnecessary, unending and disrupting appearances at the CID.

They add that the inconvenience is against the backdrop of another person in the name of Mugisha Mbonye, who has since claimed to have posted the said posts.
Efforts to reach Ms Akullo were futile as her known phone number was inaccessible by press time.

However, Mr Charles Twine, the CID spokesperson, in a recent interview, said they were still waiting for an expert opinion in the electronic and ICT field on whether it was Prophet Mbonye using Mugisha’s Facebook account to post the statements or not.
