Middle East Consultants managers committed to High Court

Two managers of Middle East Consultants, a labour exporting company, who were arrested and charged with human trafficking, have been committed to the High Court.
Benon Kunywana and Godfrey Kyalimpa in September appeared before Entebbe Grade One Magistrate Phiona Birungi and charged with human trafficking, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.
They allegedly forged documents of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to facilitate their illegal operations.
Each of them was asked to commit a cash bail of Shs2million before securing temporal freedom, while their sureties were committed to a non-cash bail of Shs5 million.
The sureties included Mr Gordon Mugyenyi, the Managing Director Middle East Consultants and Mr Richard Ssembuusi, an employee of the same company.
On Friday, the Entebbe Chief Magistrate Ms Mary Babirye committed the two officials to the High Court for trial.
The officials were arrested during operations mounted by both the Police and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit headed by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema.
The operation targeted at least 30 companies involved in labour externalisation, the majority of which have been accused of mistreating Ugandans.
