Ministers Byabagambi, Kitutu escape tent crash

Two ministers have escaped unhurt after strong wind blew away a tent under which they were sitting at an event in Napak District in Karamoja sub-region.
The Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Eng John Byabagambi and the state minister for environment, Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu were on Tuesday attending a function held in commemoration of Global Handwashing Day at Matany Primary school in Matany Sub County in Napak District.

Global Handwashing Day is an international campaign commemorated every October 15 to motivate and mobilize people around the world to improve their hand washing habits.
Guests were left in shock after the wind only blew away the tent under which they were seated.
The ministers, however, remained calm as the organisers showered them with apologies.
In her speech, Ms Kitutu attributed the incident to the severity of deforestation in the area before she appealed to the people of Karamoja to stop cutting trees.

"This incident would not have happened if there were big trees to protect us against the winds in Karamoja. All the tress have been destroyed," She said.
Mr Paul Lokol, one of the organizeres of the event apologized to the ministers before blaming “nature for working against” them.
