Kampala. Ms Miria Kalule Obote, the former First Lady, was by press time yesterday still in intensive care at Kampala Hospital.
Mr Jimmy Akena, Ms Obote’s son, said the statement about his mother’s health he issued on Saturday still stands.

“I will not add anything. I put out a statement which you published today [yesterday],” Mr Akena said yesterday by telephone.
In the Saturday statement, Mr Akena said Ms Obote, the wife of the deceased former president Milton Obote, had been hospitalised with a chest infection.

“The medical team is now assessing the possibility of her suffering viral pneumonia and such that last night, November 9, she was moved to the High Dependency Unit for closer monitoring,” Mr Akena noted.
He added: “The medical team is working competently towards restoring her good health...we will not be able to host the Milton Obote Memorial Lecture earlier scheduled for November 18.”
This reporter was denied access to Ms Obote’s sick bed yesterday by hospital staff who said she needed privacy.

Ms Obote is a former Uganda Peoples Congress party president and a presidential candidate in the 2006 election. Together with her family, she lived in exile in Zambia for decades after Obote was ousted in 1985 and returned in October 2005.
