A boy, police has been searching for the last two months has finally been found at Re-Track Uganda, a child care centre. It has emerged that Success Mwesigwa, who disappeared from Little Angels Day and Boarding School in Kampala in October this year, was picked by police and handed to Re-Track Uganda.

His parents filed a case of his disappearance at Kampala Central Police Station and tasked the school to produce their child. It came after the school management called Mwesigwa’s parents inquiring whether he had returned home since he couldn’t be traced in the boarding section for two days.

The school also opened a case of a missing child.  Police charged the school administration with failure to prevent a felony. A team of officers from the Flying Squad Unit, Criminal Investigations Directorate and Child and Family Protection Unit was deployed to hunt for Mwesigwa’s whereabouts.

His parents have also been moving from one station to another hoping to get information about their child’s whereabouts. However, it was not until officers from the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) scrutinised their records and saw Mwesigwa’s name.

Records showed the child was picked by officers from CPS on the very day he disappeared from school and took him to Child and Family Protection Unit hoping that his parents would show up, but in vain. As a result, CFPU officers handed the minor to an officer connected Re-Track Child care centre.

The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that the boy was picked by officers from Kampala Central Police Station.

“Yesterday, we were able to know the whereabouts of this child. It is alleged that he left with the friend from the school and never returned. Police officers picked him and was taken to Re-Track Uganda, a babies’ home hoping his parents would pick him from there,” he said.

He however, said there was confusion when the minor gave police the name of a school in Mpigi District.
