Police in Mayuge District are investigating circumstances under which a 60-year-old woman died at Meilika village in Kigandalo Sub County.

This is after locals set the house of one of the residents on fire, accusing him of having a hand in the death of a one Tereza Butiti who was found dead in her house.

The village LCI chairman George Bakyawa said the deceased was found with a swollen abdomen and locals allege that she was poisoned by two of her colleagues.

The suspects Fredrick Okello and Amisi Musota are said to have poisoned the deceased over allegations that she bewitched one of their family members.

Godfrey Maka, one of the relatives of the deceased said that the suspects were heard bragging about poisoning Tereza.

“As the condition of Tereza continued to worsen with the abdomen swelling, one of the suspects was heard bragging to have poisoned her,” Maka told Daily Monitor.

Upon hearing the news of Tereza’s death, locals mobbed up and raided Okello’s home. His house and property were torched in revenge.

The Police Spokesman for Busoga East region, Mr James Mubi said that the suspects were arrested to help police in investigations.
