A mobile money agent operating in Kikamba-Mooni trading centre, Wanale Division in Mbale Municipality has been shot by unknown armed thugs.

The incident happened on Tuesday night at around 10:00pm when two gunmen attacked the victim identified as Andrew Kiboma at Sebere cell in Wanale Division on the way to his home.

Mr Kiboma, a 26-year-old resident of Zesui cell, Mukuwu ward sustained serious injuries during the fracas. He was rushed to St. Martin Medical centre in Mbale Town, where he is currently receiving treatment.

A Police source who preferred anonymity told Daily Monitor that the thugs who were riding on a motorcycle shot the victim several times in the stomach.

The Elgon region Police Commander, Mr Abraham Betongyeza confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers grabbed the bag that contained money after shooting the victim, but they were forced to abandon the bag after the nearby residents responded to the alarm.

“He had refused to hand over money that is why they decided to shot him several times but we responded very first and forced them to abandon the money at the scene,” one of the residents, said.
