Mountain climber killed by bees in Koboko District

Robert Kirungi, who has been working as a Programs Manager for Samaritan Purse, a non-governmental organization in Yumbe District, on Saturday died after he was attacked by bees.
Kirungi was part of 15 members who were climbing Mt Liru in Koboko District with the aim of promoting tourism.
The incident happened before they could reach the peak of the mountain. Three of the climbers who were also attacked by bees were rushed to Koboko Hospital for treatment.
Speaking to Daily Monitor on Saturday evening, the Medical Superintendent for Koboko Hospital, Dr Paul Ogwanga, said that Kirungi died of excessive bees poison.
Mountain Liru is located at Liru village, Lurujo Parish, Lobule Sub-county in Koboko District in the Northern Region of Uganda.
One of the organisers of what was dubbed as excursion Idenda (literary meaning discover Koboko), Mr Boniface Kadabara, said the expedition was aimed at promoting local tourism in West Nile.
"This is not the first time this has been carried out. But when we reached about 25 meters, we were attacked by bees and we were being guided by locals of the area. It’s unfortunate that we have lost one of our own," he said.
