President Museveni yesterday met with former South African president Thabo Mbeki to review the progress of countries in the Horn of Africa towards achieving integration.

During the meeting that took place at Nakasero State Lodge, Mr Mbeki, who is head of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel on the Horn of Africa (AUHIP), discussed with Mr Museveni the security, economic and political challenges faced by the region.

According to a State House statement, Mr Museveni said Uganda would in writing spell out its views with regard to the three pillars of integration; security, economy and politics, which he said are linked to ideology.

“If you think about ideology of identity against ideology of interests, then you are off course,” Mr Museveni is quoted as saying. Mr Mbeki informed his host that his panel is on the mission of addressing the challenges of the integration of the Horn of Africa and has so far met leaders of Kenya and Somalia.
