President Yoweri Museveni is to meet the Bamba and Bankozo cultural leaders over the continued outbreak of clashes in districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo in the Rwenzori region.
This was revealed by Mr Mike Mukula, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice chairperson Eastern region.
Mr Mukula while addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Kampala said, both Bamba cultural leader, Lt Col Martin Ayongi Kamya and King Charles Wesley Mumbere of Rwenzururu want to meet president Museveni.
“They all want to meet the president. He will be in the region and he will meet them. He is the Fountain of honour and he will do that,” said Mukula.

According to Mr Mukula, all efforts are being pursued to see that there is total peace in the region.
“I’m working closely with the office of the president, Prime Minster, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to see that permanent peace is established in the region,” he added.
He further noted that Rwenzori region has to be under police watch all the time because if left, the clashes that have left more than 40 people dead in just one month could escalate.
“This reminds me of the situation in Rwanda between the Hutu and Tustsi. It also reminds me of the S. Sudan conflict between the Nuar and the Dinka. Had it not been the wise intervention of General Yoweri Museveni, the effect could have been worse,” he added.

Mukula further explained that his involvement in Kasese and Bundibugyo clashes is because of his historical link to the region.
“I know Mumbere very well because I worked closely with him before. I also know the cultural leader of Bamba because we fought Kony with him. Over the weekend, I had a long discussion with Mumbere for almost four hours and he welcomed the initiative of peace dialogue. I confirm to you that he is ready to meet the cultural leader of Bamba unconditionally and anywhere in order to forge a permanent solution to the violence in the region.
