Minister for Presidency. Esther Mbayo

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is slated to award 95 liberators during their forthcoming 34th Liberation Day celebrations on Sunday.
Addressing journalists yesterday at Uganda Media centre, The Minister for Presidency, Ms Esther Mbayo, said the personalities will be awarded for their great role in the liberation and independence of the country.
“The party has lined up a list of 95 people, who are going to receive medals from President Museveni for their contribution to the well-being of Ugandans. We selected those people carefully and they deserve them,” Ms Mbayo said.
She did not, however, mention the names of the beneficiaries.
Ms Mbayo also listed a number of achievements the NRM party has attained in the last 34 years.
She mentioned the lasting peace in the country. In the field of human capital, she said they have managed to construct a number of schools in all sub-counties and increased the number of universities and government technical institutions.
Ms Mbayo also hinted on the tremendous growth in tourism sector as well as improvements in the health sector.
The minister said all Ugandans, including the Opposition leaders and members, have been invited for the celebrations in the previous years but they do not attend.
She said that the celebrations are meant for all Ugandans.
Ms Mbayo also supported the arrest of Opposition leaders after she was asked by a journalist on why the leaders were arrested yet there is peace in the country.
She said government will continue arresting them if they do not follow the right procedures. “The Opposition are aware that when they want to conduct any meeting, they consult the police, but some of them start moving without notifying any one, what do you want us to do,” Ms Mbayo said.
