The NRM candidate in Nebbi District by-election Mr Emmanuel Urombi (NRM) has been declared the winner after defeating his opponents Mr Vicky Onyai (FDC) and Mr George Othuba (Independent).

Mr Urombi garnered 22,280 votes while his opponents; Mr Onyai got 4,022 and Mr Othuba got 18,323 votes.

“Accordingly, as a returning officer for Nebbi electoral district, I declare Emmanuel Urombi who has obtained the largest number of votes as the winner for Nebbi Electoral area, Nebbi electoral district,” Mr Michael Arinaitwe, said in an official statement.
Mr Urombi now replaces Ezrom William Alenyo, who died in September last year.

Mr Arinaitwe said a total number of 44, 625 votes were cast, 1,911 ballot papers were rejected (invalid), while 94 ballot papers got spoilt. They are a total of about 121, 856 registered voters in the district, but only 46, 536 voters managed to take part in the voting exercise.

According to election observers, Citizens' Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU), the polling exercise was peaceful although there was tension reported in the Sub Counties of Parambo, Padwot, Akworo, Erusi and Jupangira which boarder with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

CCEDU also noted low voter participation throughout the polling day as most of them were participating in market days across the district.
