Kampala.
NRM youth in Kampala have ousted their leader, Mr Adam Luzindana, for supporting the supposed presidential bid of Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi.
Mr Mbabazi is also the Secretary General of NRM.

The youth, during a meeting convened and chaired by Central region Youth MP Patrick Nakabale on Friday selected Mr Mark Mugwanya as the interim NRM youth leader for Kampala Central.

Mr Nakabale accused Mr Luzindana of being involved in “clandestine moves which can no longer be accepted”.
The meeting was attended by NRM youth leaders: Mark Mugwanya from Makindye Division, Tony Buwande from Kampala Central, Graham Muyingo from Kawempe Division, Abdul Kitata from Rubaga and Patrick Kawa from Nakawa, among others.

Reacting to the move to replace him in Kampala, Mr Luzindana said the meeting, which purported to replace him was illegal.
“It’s only the NRM Youth conference which is mandated to throw me out,” Mr Luzindana said on Saturday. He insisted he was still the chairman of NRM Youth in Kampala Central.

A rift emerged in the ruling NRM after MPs in a stormy caucus retreat at Kyankwanzi in Kiboga District accused Mr Mbabazi of nursing presidential ambitions. The MPs hence passed a resolution to endorse President Museveni as the sole candidate of the party in 2016 elections.

In the weeks that followed, tapes leaked in which the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura was recorded interviewing some NRM youth leaders over Mr Mbabazi’s supposed overtures. In the aftermath youth leaders believed to be in support of Mr Mbabazi were arrested.

Mr Omodo-Omodo, the NRM youth league national vice chairman for northern region, and Mr Luzindana, the NRM Youth League national vice chairperson were arrested early in the month and charged with abuse of office. However, the DPP later dropped the charged.
