Kampala- Leaders in Nakawa Division have asked the government and the donor community to construct toilet facilitates on all the major highways.
Mr Benjamin Kalumba, the chairperson of Nakawa Division, said lack of these facilities puts the division at high risk of cholera, since the rainy season has set in.
“We don’t have a public toilet from Jinja Road roundabout up to Banda, but thousands of people use this road. On Kinawataka–Mbuya Road, people have resorted to using the railway line as their toilet. We are at risk of cholera any time if the government and donor community don’t come for our rescue,” Mr Kalumba said.
He wondered where trailer drivers who park their vehicles near Uganda Revenue Authority go to ease themselves.
Mr Kalumba said the division had land near Nakawa Vocational Institute and was only waiting for resources to start the constructions.
He was speaking at the commissioning of a Shs67 million sanitation facility donated by Uganda Breweries Limited, which has a provisional toilet for people with disabilities.
