New SFC commander takes office as Nabasa goes to China for training

KAMPALA- The former Commander Special Forces, Maj Gen Don Nabasa has handed over office to his successor Maj Gen James Birungi.
The handover and takeover ceremony took place on Wednesday at 10 Marine Battalion headquarters, Entebbe.
According to the statement issued by the UPDF, the Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba presided over the function.

“Maj Gen. Nabasa in his speech highlighted on some achievements he achieved while in office including; bridging the accommodation gaps by constructing and renovating a host of housing units, conducting skilled and specialised trainings for troops, built by Dr Ronald Bata memorial Hospital as well as expanding and equipping it with the state of the art machines. This hospital caters for the militants, their families and the civilian communities around Lunyo Barracks in Entebbe,” the statement said.

Maj Gen Birungi replaced Maj Gen Nabasa as the Commander of Special Forces in a mini reshuffle announced last week.


“Gen Muhoozi, in his remarks, thanked Maj Gen. Nabasa for a job well done especially in the area of infrastructural development. He wished him well in his scheduled Defence and Strategic course,” the statement said.

The function was attended by the Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Muzeyi Sabiiti, Deputy Commander Airforces, Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi, Deputy Commander of SFC, Col Peter Candia and the Director of Administration SFC, Col Felix Busizoori.
