One arrested over Lyantonde shooting
Detectives led by the deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen Steven Sabiiti Muzeyi have arrested one person in connection to armed attacks that left three family members dead in Lyantonde District on Sunday night.
Francis Rwabagabo and his wife Kellen Nakato were shot inside their home in Kaliiro Township in Kaliiro Sub County at around 9pm.
Hours later, the assailant raided Rwabagabo’s sister in-law, Leokadia Kizza’s home at Kaliiro III Village, located two kilometers away and shot her dead.

Police on Monday evening said one Ben Kakuru had been arrested from Rwampara in Mbarara.
“The Deputy Inspector General of Police is still leading a team of detectives in the area and so far they have arrested one suspect in connection to the crime. One of the suspects Ben Kakuru has just been arrested from Rwampara Mbarara. On searching him, he was found with 14 bullets in his house. A joint team of Flying Squad and CMI operatives are in the hunt for the guns yet to be recovered,” police said in a statement posted on their social media platforms.
Maj. Gen Sabiiti has reportedly instructed deceives to remain in the area until all the prime suspects are arrested.
Nine members of major crime gang arrested Ntungamo
In a related development, police earlier said they had arrested nine 'very notorious suspects’ and recovered four guns as well as three suspected stolen motorcycles in Ntungamo District.
"The task team disrupted the violent activities of that were being committed by the notorious group. The six suspects arrested allegedly participated in 17 armed robberies from Augusts 2019 to date in areas of Ntungamo, Kiboga, Bulaga, Kyengera, Matugga, Bulenga, Wakaliga, Kasangati, Kibibi, Kitemu, Masaka road, Mbale and Lyantonde,” said police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
The suspects were identified as Rogers Kalenzi, Obadiah Nuwagaba, Fred Bahati, Brian Mbogo, Augstine Tumwiine and Sam Nkurunziza.
"Several exhibits which include two guns, three motorcycles and facial masks, have been recovered," Mr Enanga added in a statement.
