Traffic Police in Mpigi District have confirmed that one person died on spot and three others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred at Mitalamaria near Buwama Town along Kampala-Masaka highway on Sunday evening.

According to police, the accident happened after a vehicle Mark X registration number UBD 330G crashed with a tipper lorry registration number UBF524A, while the driver of the former was trying to overtake other vehicles on a sloping lane.

"The driver of the Mark X found another vehicle ahead coming from the opposite direction, which knocked him and eventually hit a tipper lorry registration number UBF524A that overturned. The turn man in the lorry died instantly, but our team with the help of good Samaritans managed to remove the driver from the wreckage before he could die," Mr James Tibeijuka, Officer-in-Charge of traffic and road safety at Buwama Police Station, said.

He attributed the accident to reckless driving by the Mark X driver, who disappeared from the scene after causing the accident.

"As the festive season nears, I caution all drivers to respect other road users and drive with integrity and commitment to save lives," Mr Tibeijuka said.

The deceased body was taken to Gombe Hospital mortuary for autopsy while the injured persons were rushed to Nkozi Hospital to receive treatment.
