One dead, scores injured as bus overturns in Kibaale

One person died on spot and several others sustained injuries after a bus which was transporting students of Hoima School of Nursing and Midwifery, overturned on Thursday evening.

District. Police identified the deceased as Josephine Kirabo, 25, a second year nursing student.
According to the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Julius Hakiza, 10 students sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kibaale Health Centre IV for treatment, while 17 of them sustained minor injuries and were treated at different health facilities.
The Kibaale District Police Commander, Mr David Otabong, said police preliminary investigations indicate that the bus which had about 80 students on board overturned when the driver lost control at a sharp corner and hit a rock before rolling down.
“The driver has been arrested but he also sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kibaale Health Centre IV. Some of the affected students sustained fractured limbs,” he said.
“It is very unfortunate that we have lost one student and others have sustained injuries. Two students have been referred to Hoima Referral Hospital for further management,” said Mr Fredrick Kakoraki, the Hoima District Vice Chairperson, said.

The students were being picked from different health centers including; Kakindo, Kakumiro and Kibaale, where they were carrying out their internships.
