One dead, student critically injured after being shot by guard in Kampala

Police in Kampala have preferred charges of murder against a private security guard who shot dead one person and injured another over what detectives are still investigating.

Police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga on Wednesday night said Caleb Muhwezi, a guard attached to Swat Security Company had been deployed at Pioneer building along Ben Kiwanuka street in Kampala when he shot dead one Brendah Bukoye, 36, a resident of Nsambya Railway and wounded another who has been identified as Anita Nanyonjo, a student at Kampala University.

The shooting happened at about 8.15pm on Wednesday.

Mr Enanga said Ms Nanyonjo had been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition.

“Caleb was arrested, weapon recovered and yet to give his statement upon what happened. He has been charged with murder vide sd ref 81/23/01/2019 of Central Police station,” Mr Enanga said.
