Kabale. Former Archbishop of Church of Uganda Henry Luke Orombi has asked the elected and church leaders in Uganda to always humble themselves and have compassion for the people they lead.
He said they should demonstrate love of Jesus Christ who washed the feet of his disciples including those that were about to betray and deny him. Archbishop Orombi was on Sunday preaching at the closure of a four-day Brethren Conference that was organised by the Diocese of Kigezi on Rugarama Hill.

“Elected and church leaders should humble themselves before the people they serve if they are to receive God’s blessings. Jesus Christ stooped so low despite his spiritual powers from God to an extent of washing his disciples’ feet including those that were about to deny and betray him. Jesus Christ should be our best example as elected and church leaders,” Archbishop Emeritus Luke Orombi said.

He thanked government for being a faithful partner of the Church and specifically thanked President Museveni for standing with them.
“Join me to thank President Museveni for his usual support to the church because he is there for us every time he is invited to church functions. He is a God- fearing man and we should be proud of him. The young people in Uganda should respect the elders because they are the source of wisdom that cannot be traced on Google,” Archbishop Orombi said.

He added: “Always give God big sums of money for his work because he rewards the generous. If you give little you will always receive little.”
Archbishop Orombi thanked the Bishop Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda, for being a leader of integrity, honesty, humility and hard work to an extent of giving personal savings as donations to the churches in the area.

“I was recently shocked when I had that Bishop Bagamuhunda donated 200 bags of cement to support the construction of All Saints Church in Kabale Town because it is something rare among the church leaders,” he said.
The Brethren Conference coincided with the thanksgiving ceremony for the bishop as he celebrated five years of service.

The head of laity for Diocese of Kigezi, Mr Johnson Baryantuma Munono, said in the period of five years, Bishop Bagamuhunda has so far baptised 28,705 children, confirmed 22,932 youth into the Anglican faith, wedded 3,955 couples and supported the construction of 39 churches.
Other accomplishments include construction of 101 protected water springs, construction of 563 water community water harvesting tanks of 4,000 litre capacity, construction of the bishop’s house worth Shs800 million, construction of the jubilee hostel worth Shs830 million, buying cars for all the archdeaconries, and registering and acquiring land titles for all the church land in the diocese.

Bishop Bagamuhunda thanked the clergy, Christians and members of his family for supporting him on his journey as a leader of the diocese.
He then donated 250 bags of cement towards the construction of the building that shall house the Skills Development Centre for Women in Diocese of Kigezi.
The State Minister for Finance, Mr David Bahati, who was the chief guest, donated 500 bags of cement towards the skills centre project. A total of Shs150 million in cash was raised and pledges, and 1,207 bags of cement realised for the same cause.
