Parliament to debate Uganda-Rwanda row

Kampala. Parliament today is expected to debate the ongoing row between Rwanda and Uganda that has led to the closure of the two countries’ common border posts.
Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga told First Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali on Tuesday to come with a detailed explanation on the tension that threatens diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This was after several legislators raised the issue as a matter of “national importance” and sought explanation from government.
Youth MP [National] Anna Adeke Ebaju, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko and Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya raised the issue.
In response, Gen Ali said: “This House will be informed at an appropriate time when the government is ready,” he said before Ms Kadaga told him that government should return today with an explanation.

State relations. Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Richard Sezibera addressed a press conference on Tuesday and accused Uganda of habouring the dissidents of Rwanda National Congress (RNC).
At the time of the press conference, the Rwandan President Paul Kagame was in South Africa where some members of the RNC are staying.
South Africa has also sanctioned an inquest into the 2013 controversial assassination of former Rwanda intelligence Chief Patrick Karegeya, who was also a member of RNC.
