Pastor who hosted Bobi Wine last year, has been arrested

Bobi Wine speaks at Pastor Muwanguzi’s True Worship Centre in Kamuli District, in March last year

Pastor Andrew Muwanguzi, the proprietor of True Worship Centre in Kamuli District, who hosted the leader of People Power movement, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, in March last year, has been arrested for allegedly hosting an illegal assembly.

Mr Muwanguzi was arrested after featuring on a television talk show in Jinja town on Saturday afternoon.

He was taken to Jinja Central Police Station where he was held for an hour, before being transferred to Kamuli Central Police Station.

Mr Muwanguzi reportedly committed the offense when he hosted the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, religious leaders and other democracy and human rights campaigners, at his home in Bukikimbo village in Butansi Sub-county in March last year, without notifying police.

Mr Muwanguzi told journalists that his arrest was uncalled for since Bobi Wine paid him a visit, which didn’t warrant police approval.

Busoga North Region Police spokesperson, Mr Michael Kasadha, said that the suspect has been holding consultative meetings without notifying police contrary to the Public Order Management Act.

He said detectives are still investigating the matter and will provide a detailed statement on the matter on Monday.
