Pastors faking miracles to lure believers - bishop

NTUNGAMO. The Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe, has cautioned youth not to be attracted to mushrooming churches, the miracles and prophesies they allegedly deliver.

The bishop said most of the miracles and prophesies are faked by selfish pastors who want to attract believers to their churches for commercial reasons.

He said because desperate people like miracles to happen to them, they will go everywhere and they most likely end up duped.

Bishop Ahimbisibwe was preaching at the closure of the diocese’s Annual Youth Convention at Muntuyera High School Kitunga on Monday.
“People like miracles. False prophets will make those miracles. Recently, I in a conference in Lagos Nigeria and we were told of a bad story. People sat in a hotel and planned how to make miracles and get money from believers, one was to be dead, another was to become lame and the other mad, they collected a lot of money but failed to share well, one of them came out and told the story, they were arrested,” Bishop Ahimbisibwe said.

He added that false prophesy and miracles thrive because they are aired on radios and television. “Because these events are live on TV and radio, they get a lot of money from unsuspecting believers,” he said.

The bishop cautioned the youth against betraying their parents and the country.

The Principal Uganda Bible institute, Rev Abraham Bwambale, who preached at the event, said the many pastors cropping up are only preaching about miracles to happen to people without preaching about prayer and repentance.

He said the pastors are only identified with their churches and do not have specific homes, they stay in hotels and drive big cars.

More than 1800 youths attended the three day youth convention with at least 800 announcing that they have given their lives to Christ as their savior.
