Jinja
Police in Jinja have denied receiving a refund of the stolen Shs20m; part of Shs110 million that President Museveni had donated to a Jinja-based journalist, Ms Brenda Gimbo, for an operation in India.

The police have been investigating circumstances under which Shs20m of the cash was swindled and allegedly distributed between Jinja District NRM vice chairperson Majidu Dhikusooka, and Mr Solomon Baleke, the Wankule Sub-county NRM chairperson, who is also a stringer for Radio Simba and The Observer.

In a swift turn of events, Mr Dhikusooka claims he has already refunded the Shs10m to Ms Gimbo’s husband while at the Jinja Regional police headquarters in the presence of Kiira Region Deputy Police Commander Onesmus Mwesigwa. But Mr Mwesigwa says he has not received any money, arguing that Mr Dhikusooka is peddling lies.

She says the extortionists also threatened to harm her four children should she fail to deliver the demanded inducement.
After bargaining with them, Ms Gimbo agreed to part with Shs20m; half of the sum President Museveni had given her.
