Police CID officer commits suicide

Kole- Barely a week after a police officer was found hanging dead in a holding cell at Mawanda Road Police Station in Kampala, another police officer has committed suicide by hanging herself on a mango tree.

The body of Grace Awor, 58, who has been in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department at Aboke Police Station in Kole, Lira District was found dangling on the tree near the police station.

Pupils who were returning from school on Wednesday, discovered the body of the female detective hanging on a tree.

Awor, a mother of two adult children was reportedly 'very jolly' on Tuesday evening, according to her colleagues who spoke to Daily Monitor on Wednesday evening.

Mr James Opinya, one of the police officers attached to the station said the deceased performed her duties normally only that she never reported for duty on Wednesday.

"On Wednesday morning we found the door to her house open and her shoes were on the door mat and thought she was still resting since by 9pm she had not yet reported for work. But we were shocked this evening when school children found her body hanging on a mango tree ", Mr Opinya said.

He said Grace Awor was staying alone in the police quarters house since her two adult children live in Kampala.

"Her husband died some time back and she has been staying alone", Mr Opinya said.
The North Kyoga police spokesman Mr David Ongom Mudong, confirmed the incident.

"Her body has taken to Lira Referral Hospital Mortuary. We are going to investigate the circumstances that could have led her to commit suicide", Mr Mudong said.
