Police arrest three LDUs over herdsmen murder

  • The suspects allegedly shot dead a 10-year-old boy only identified as Apalocolut, Lopus Apanaleso, 27, and Lotoya Rengetau, 25, residents of Nakapelimoru Sub County, Panyangara Sub County and Kotido Municipality in Kotido District respectively.

Police in Abim District have arrested three Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel for allegedly shooting dead three herdsmen at Otumpili village, Alerek Sub County.

The incident happened on Saturday as the herdsmen allegedly walked to their kraal. Police have since recovered 33 cartridges from the scene.

Police have identified the suspects as; Moses Otim, 37, Steven Ongom, 25 and Godfrey Ogwang, 23, all attached to Otalabar Army detach.

The Abim Resident District Commissioner, Mr Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, confirmed the incident saying the suspects will be handed to the army Court-Martial.

“According to the information we have got from the UPDF, these people will face murder charges and are likely to be court-martialled at the scene where the crime took place. The incident is very regrettable,” he said.
