A woman has been arrested after she took two children of her neighbours to attend a birthday party but later gave them to his boyfriend whom he deceived that they were his twins.

The prime suspect, Zarin Shamira Zolo took her neighbours’ two-year old children from Banda Township, Nakawa Division in Kampala City on January 07, 2020, to Kireka in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspect later called the parents that she had gone to Kayunga District and would return in the evening of that day.

“The parents waited for her but she didn’t return. She later switched off her phone. After two days, the children’s parents reported the case to police,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Owoyesigyire said Wednesday.

Police followed up a case of kidnap.

ASP Owoyesigyire said police tracked Ali Bakaaki, who the suspect had talked to on phone several times and arrested him in Mukono District.

“He told us the children were at his home. He said his girlfriend had told him the children were his twins,” he said.

Two years ago, Zolo had deceived Bakaaki that she gave birth to his twins.

Police went to Bakaaki’s home where they arrested Zolo and recovered the two children.

ASP Owoyesigyire said Zolo told detectives that her aim was to deceive the boyfriend, who had put her on pressure to take twins she had claimed to have delivered two years ago, to him.

“Both Zolo and Bakaaki have been detained as we investigate more about this case.”
