PADER- Police in Pader District have been accused of beating up a freelance journalist working with New Vision on Tuesday.

Mr Brilliant Tito was allegedly kicked several times by a Special Police Constable attached to Pader Police Station after Pader District chairperson Alfred Akena and CID officer, Mr Antero Enyang, had a bitter exchange in a closed door meeting over allegations that senior police officers were concealing defilement cases.

The incident happened at Pader Central Police Station where a closed door meeting between women activists and district leaders was taking place. According to Mr Tito, he was kicked as he tried to capture the moment on his camera.

He claimed the officer asked him not to take pictures of the exchange before kicking him several times.

Kicked
“I was kicked several times in the presence of the district police commander Ambrose Sabiiti and other police officers. But I am shocked that Mr Sabiiti justified the officer’s action accusing me of acting unprofessionally.”

When contacted about the matter Mr Sabiiti said the journalist had no permission to take pictures from the police station, adding he should have obtained permission before taking the pictures.
