Lira. Police have blocked a stakeholders’ meeting organised by Members of Parliament from Lango under their umbrella body, Lango Parliamentary Group.
The meeting was scheduled for today. This is the second time the police have blocked a meeting called by the group.

The previous
The earlier meeting was scheduled for November 30 and was supposed to be attended by the Minister of Security, Gen Elly Tumwiine. It was aimed at easing tension triggered by the death of an 11-year-old pupil of Alito Primary School in Kole District who was allegedly killed by two Indian nationals. The child died on November 9.
On December 13, the publicity secretary of the group, Mr Paul Amoru Omiat, who is also the MP for Dokolo North ,indicated that the meeting had been rescheduled for Monday at Uganda Technical College.
Mr Amoru said the new date was set during a meeting of the executive members of LPG held in Kampala last Thursday. However, the North Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Mr Peter Nkulega, told Daily Monitor in a separate interview on Saturday they that had earlier agreed the meeting would be convened at an appropriate time upon consultation. However, the group did not get back to them.
He said as police they were not aware of any meeting convened by MPs today.
The RPC said their earlier response was clear and the lawmakers know what is supposed to be done, but he had not been informed.
“If what they are planning to have is with genuine reasons, then we must be in the know and if we are not that simply means they have a hidden agenda, therefore, we shall also come out clearly,” the RPC said.
Mr Nkulega said by law police are supposed to be informed in advance since they are also stakeholders in development of the nation.
He said an MP cannot just talk about peace without involving the police.
